1. THE
WORLD IN 2050.
individual reflection
As introduction the following text was
presented:
In 2050 our Planet will be very different.
The Earth’s population will have doubled
and its natural resources drastically diminished.
Despite that, we will continue to do things
the same way we did when there were plenty of
resources and we were only a tiny part of the
problem.
Meanwhile, many attempts may have been done
to change our habits, forgetting, though, that
the real changes begin in our minds.
We will build sophisticated alternatives to
our most traditional sources of energy, we will
invest in diversified and advanced solutions
to solve the scarcity of resources.
We will continue step by step following the
same path that has brought us to the current
situation, convinced that the progress follows
one single direction. We will forget that there
are alternatives even for progress.
In September we had already consumed everything
our Planet will be able to produce all this
the year. Today, we are already consuming a
part of the savings left by our ancestors. We
have been living above our possibilities. It
is as if we spent more money than we could ever
possibly earn.
And what do we think about this all?
It is easy, we need to earn more. However,
there is a small great problem: our dear Earth
may not have funds to pay us.
It will be worthless to earn more if there
is no one to pay us back.
What other way should we choose?

SPACE PROJECT
As introduction the following text was
presented:
Breaking
News / Latest News
Lately different situations of disintegration
of the Earth surface have been observed in different
regions of the Globe.
This odd phenomenon has been analysed all over
the world by scientists who try to find an explanation
for these happenings.
The answers come slowly, but the evidences show
that the continuous process of disintegration
is occurring everywhere.
Without any solution, there is only one thing
to be done so as to save Mankind: to evacuate
people from the Planet.
The scientific community and the authorities
try, as quickly as possible, to make a list
of the essential things to be taken in the spaceships
that will transport the Earth’s population to
the outer space.
The goods and resources to be taken in a spaceship
must be sufficient to guarantee the survival
of Humanity in a spaceship. The evacuation will
be for an indefinite period.
There is an alert to the population of the whole
Planet to pay attention to the information which
is constantly broadcast by all media.
CHALLENGE
Attentive to the world around you, you get to
know about this terrible phenomenon. Making
use of the available scientific knowledge you
help organise the evacuation from Planet Earth.
Write a text where you tell us about the procedures
which must be adopted and the goods and resources
which must be used to guarantee the survival
of Mankind in the outer space.
STUDENTS
WORKS
3.
SHORT ANIMATIONS, WEBPAGES AND BLOGS.
The communication of the works and ideas developed
in the project must be done in an easy and interesting
way to young people.
We are working in some techniques of animation
(stop motion, digital writings) to build some
short animations later, based on students’ works.
EXAMPLE
4. ENERGY
DEVICES
SOLAR
WATER HEATER
The construction of the device was integrated
in Physics lessons of 10th grade students.
They are studying Thermodynamics to understand
the functioning of the heater.
We are thinking about adapting a Brazilian project
made of PET bottles and other recycled materials.

SOLAR
OVEN
We intend to build some types of solar ovens
and to organize the solar cooker
day with the collaboration of
a Portuguese company which produces solar cookers
(Sun OK)
PHOTOVOLTAIC
CELLS AND NEW LIGHTNING TECHNOLOGIES
LEDs and Photovoltaic Cells.
We are working in a structure made of PET bottles...

ENERGY: WHAT'S THE FUTURE?
The Students of the 10th grade participated
in a debate about the solutions to the problem
of energy in the future. They built motions
and argued about six different aspects of the
problem, including the nuclear option.

NUCLEAR ENERGY: GREEN
OR NOT
At the same time a questionnaire about nuclear
energy was conducted among young people between
15 and 20 years old.
CONCLUSIONS>>
The younger students wrote stories about nuclear
energy demonstrating their points of view.
From these stories the most common ideas were
summarized to be expressed through an animated
video
